Read on to find out more about this life-giving plant

In Sanskrit, the coconut palm is know as Kalpa Vriksha, which means ‘the tree which gives all that is necessary for living’, since almost all parts of the palm can be used. Fronds can be used for baskets, thatched roofs and hats. The trunk can be used for building and to make canoes. The coconut husk will make rope, rugs, and excellent material for shoes. Coconut shells are perfect for bowls, cups, and can even be carved into eating utensils.

But by far the most impressive quality is what is contained inside the coconut. Coconut water is full of electrolytes – chemicals that regulate many bodily functions and are lost when we sweat. Electrolytes hydrate and replenish the body. Coconut water is also the closest natural substance to plasma, which is our white blood cells. It is so pure, it can be and has been used to give blood transfusions when fresh blood wasn’t available. Coconuts are anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-protozoal. They also support tissue healing and repair, and boost immune system function. And they promote the loss of excess weight by increasing our metabolism, so don’t worry about the fat!

So, in a (Coco)nutshell, coconuts are hydrating and alkalizing, clean our blood, fight disease, increase our metabolism, and boost the immune system. Rock n' Roll! On top of that they are delicious. If you haven’t tried one, you will find them at most Health Food stores in the produce section. Ask for ‘young coconut water’, but be sure to go for the fresh rather than the canned . Of course if you live in Hawaii, no need to go to the store. Just call us.
